GUITAR INTRO - (C) (G) (C)

(C)  You sent me a king size (Cmaj7) postcard

From your (Fmaj7) new life in Bel Air

You (C) said though breaking (Cmaj7) up was hard

You were (Fmaj7) glad I wasn't (C) there

You're (G) happy in your king size bed

(F) At least that's (C) what you said

But I just think you're (G) living a (G7) king size (C) lie

You wrote me a ten page (Cmaj7) letter

Telling (Fmaj7) me about your friends

You (C) said your life was (Cmaj7) better

Now you'd (Fmaj7) tidied up loose (C) ends

You (G) say you love the party life

You're (F) happy not to (C) be a wife

But I still think you're (G) living a (G7) king size (C) lie

(F) Some (G) day I (C) hope you'll see

(G) Where you should (C) really be

(F) Maybe it's (G) not with (C) me

That (Dm) ship has sailed I (G) know we failed

You (C) sent me a ten word (Cmaj7) email

(Fmaj7) Terse and lacking grace

In (C) words beyond the (Cmaj7) pale

That (Fmaj7) slapped me in the (C) face

You (G) think that you're a lady now

But (F) someone needs to (C) show you how

To live a life and (G) not a (G7) king size (C) lie

(F) Some (G) day I (C) hope you'll see

(G) Where you should (C) really be

(F) Maybe it's (G) not with (C) me

That (Dm) ship has sailed I (G) know we failed

GUITAR INTERLUDE - (C) (Cmaj7) (Fmaj7) (C) (Cmaj7) (Fmaj7) (C)

(G) (F) (C) (G) (G7) (C)

You need to live a life and (G) not a (G7) king size (C) lie

Well I'm not a musician unless you count the 300 karaoke songs I've song, mostly crazy and red velvet yes that was me 🀣 Robert seriously you are so inspiring I love this song it's so relatable and sad to how.couples lose sight lose.love and simply move on. The real thing to say is the grass.is never greener where.ever we are. A superb song I most enjoyed, if I ever.make.it back to the UK we can do it as.a duet? Fabulous Sir. πŸ’–

    • Robert Haigh

Oh thank you, Teddy! Most gracious of you. I'm glad you like this song. Yes, we can sing it as a duet anytime you like!

    • orchidee

      Good song Robert.
Best not duet with me - I will spoil it! lol.

      • Robert Haigh

Thank you Orchi! I'm sure we could do a decent duet. You could do a Satchmo impression - I'm sure it would go down a treat!

Nice one Robert. Makes me wish i hadn't had to pack in playing guitar (A6 and Dmaj7 gave me an index fingrer RSI and i was earning good money playing saxes in a band at the time).
I like the storyline and conclusion.

Getting older, the joints begin to stiffen. I usually do a few hand and finger exercises when I wake up in the morning, as my hands are stiff to start with. The day may dawn when I have to stop playing, but I'll keep on going while I still can. Certain chords can be a bit taxing, but then again they always were... lol! Thanks for the comment. Glad you liked this.

Bloomin brilliant Rob .. I am mightily impressed .. am a big fan of Dylan too sir ....................................please accept the following YES as a token of my appreciation and approval .. Neville

          • Robert Haigh

Thank you kindly, Neville! It took me a long time to get into Dylan as a performer. Always admired his songwriting. I bought the "Blonde on Blonde" album on vinyl back in the day, but couldn't grow to like it. I sold it to a second-hand record shop! Then, decades later I re-listened to some of the songs on youtube and thought, "How on earth did I not see how great this stuff is?!" I went out and bought the album again, on CD. Sometimes it takes a while to get past Dylan's rough and ready vocals. It was the same with Neil Young. I love both of them now.

            • Neville

we have all, well at least I think all of Dylan's stuff & quite a few of NY's too ........................... funnily enough, Dylan's vinyl was the only stuff I didn't get rid of in favour of CD's and only because my wife threatened to walk out ...................................................................................... N ...... no not if I kept em πŸ™‚

Oh, I like this, anything that can be sung should definitely be sung.
The sadder, the better as far as I'm concerned. Is there more where this came from.

                • Robert Haigh

Yes, there is more, but it is on youtube. I may post one or two others on MPS, but meanwhile I have quite a few songs (both originals and covers) on my youtube channel. The link to my playlist is at the top of my home page here at MPS. Thanks for the comment, Paul.

                  • Paul Bell

Both the poetry and song accompanied
It’s a wonder to the eyes
And indeed the king size is a lie

                            • Robert Haigh

Well, I thank you for your very generous praise, Stuart! I think this is probably one of the better songs I have written. Family and friends seem to like it.
