Spreading the Love

Let's spread love and joy

Eat and be merry

Watch the carts of fantasy

Pass by the joyful  children

As their mum's and dads

Say, with a tear in their eyes

Happy Thanksgiving

Christmas has begun

Christmas carols to be sung

Everyday

Should be...

For Thanks and for Giving.

OMG so the american thanksgiving thaang has reached the shores of Italy huh? It's firmly rejected in these parts of England, seen for what it is, a quasi religious event created for commercial interest in anyplace other than USA where it has a purpose and history.

However, any poetry which encourages love and joy, eating and merryment gets my approval.

It's been christmas since September according to some of the TV channels here in dear old Blighty Teddy.

I've actually had the pleasure to work with some amazing American families who taught me that is about being around those you love, it sure is about being thankful too, such a lovely holiday. I know that In the UK things started in some places in August, I suspect that is to do with COVID and the foreseeable problems but just for today I would like to forget about this horrible stuff that is keeping me from my friends and family. In Italy they don't go mad at all for Xmas ever.its also more about being with family. Thank you darling Dusk. πŸ’–

HmmmOK i'm wrong (again). I thought it was an amaerican tradition born of giving thanks for successful harvests by early settlers but no! On researching it appears to be tied up with some early christian mumbo-jumbo by st paul (the bloke on the road to Domestos etc). But not being a christian it's jusy mockery to me. So my humble fat lipped apologies.... hail-on, be hearty, sip a glass or two for me, eat a turkey, smear the grandchildren with brandy butter and give 'em a kiss..... rave - on Teddy. xx

She never said thanks for the giving I gave her. I'm liking this thanksgiving to spread the love.

a few words, in the giving
a few smiles, in the reading
            a season for Poetry
            to bind that, good natured
            togetherness
            in our seasonal embrace
            of all-things
            soothingly hopeful and spice..
            (reading your words
gave me more of that Christmas feeling
than all the shopfront window dressing's
            combined, dear Poetess)

Thank you dear mek, such a kind thing to say. πŸ’–

Our thanksgiving here in Canada was October,11th. I was in a dollar store October 15 and in one isle was Halloween stuff (only on one side) the other side of the same isle was Christmas stuff. It seems we don't have patience to wait for its arrival these days. We start celebrating way too soon, and by the time it does get here, everybody so sick of it and can't wait for it to be over.lmao. I so wish I could live in much simpler times. Great poem though, especially those last few words.πŸ‘πŸ˜€
