Above Water

Valerie Wilson

Some days I feel as if I may drown.

Life can be difficult to keep your head above water.

The happiness, the sadness and the in between.
Life flows like epps and tides of the ocean. Some days I feel as if I may drown.

The waves raging within us all.

Keep my spirt and heart cleansed with the saltiness of these two things,

  •

I then come up for air.

  • Comment from author about the poem: From my own experience, as a women, I wrote this poem after a near fatal hydroplane accident I was racing in going over 100mph and flipped my boat going for #1 in the Country. I was clocked under water for 1 minute and 30 secs. It blew my chance to be National Champion. 2nd place was very good, however that’s how life can change in a split second. Always struggling with depression and anxiety & now PTSD. I can always over come the odds.

'but for strife, would we know
        the sweetness of life?'
        that is the memorable message
        I took away
        from your write of testimony
        to fortitude's, yields..
thank you for choosing to share
congrats on your hard earned 2nd place
        and for winning: in life!
