Sleepy Fortune

Charles Edward York

When I lay down with my love
She sleeps in gentle union
Day puts down its diurnal business
In favor of nocturnal water
Flowing slowly
Finally coming to rest
Along smooth curves
And fine recesses
Breathing quietly
As soft and subtle
Cool waves
Beneath my warm hand.

My sleepy fortune is beside her
Closing my eyes to see
Beautiful is as beautiful does
Her amorous ambition
Delightfully decides
I am its dream witness
Amiable enough
For gracious abide
Sharing her cloth of night
In lowest tides
Where my thankful heart
Finds peaceful rest.

like your use of 'diurnal' as well

@L.B. Mek Believe it or not I first saw the word diurnal in a poem translation of one of Pablo Neruda’s poems
