Girl smokin’ a big cigar
straddlin’ the fender
of her hippy trimmed car
knowin’ she’d be happier
with outlaws
in a bar.
Drivin’ to beat hell,
smiling and tryin’ to be real.
Girl playin’ a big rock star
strummin’ the strings
of her childhood guitar
amped on whiskey she sings
like an outlaw
in a bar.
Workin’ to beat hell,
smilin’ and tryin’ to be real.
Girl stylin’ on the big stage
shoutin’ rebel lyrics
‘bout a love and peace age
laughin’ at her cynics,
she’s outlaw
in a bar.
Performin’ to beat hell,
smilin’ and tryin’ to be real.
Girl grows to livin’ a big life
lovin’ mean men
with no curls to be wife;
wasted and cryin’.
She's outlaw
in a bar.
Livin’ to beat hell,
smilin’ and tryin’ to be real.
Girl faces the big sleep,
guns loaded with flaws
the beat slows, eyes weep
and the curtain draws
on the outcast
in a bar.
Dyin’ to beat hell,
Tryin’ to be real.

Left me speechless. Very well written. Beyond your clearly great grasp of structure, the topic and sentiment appeals to me on a very personal level. I can see the Girl in my mind, and I know I've felt what she did - until the final stanza, which reminds me where I could've ended up. Well done
Ty _/\_ 🙂
I can't very well explain my own emotional connections to this one. I'm still unpacking this one myself.
