Monkeys

RavenaJane

Monkeys
I'll let you in on a secret
I have a monkey on my back.
It puts me on the defensive
As though I'm under an attack.

But that is not my secret
Lean in close and lend an ear.
You have one on your back, too,
Just like everyone else, my dear.

So show kindness to other people
Do you see their monkeys, too?
A smile goes such a long, long way
And is such an easy thing to do.

We wrestle with our monkeys
They make us weak and frail
But with love and understanding
I'm sure we will prevail.
