Wish

Charles Edward York

Standing before a birthday cake

Looking up at a star

Leafing through a store catalog

Scrolling through a shop website

All these seem so unrelated

But have one thing in common.

Feelings flying high upon the wind

A kite soaring across the sky

Fishes swimming up stream

A child up on Christmas Eve

All seem so different but see

They all imitate my emotions now.

You are all I so wish for tonight

A candle burning by a window

The prayer beside my bed

My dream across a horizon

All have you in common

Beneath our covers

And side by side

‘Til the wheels wear out.

Thank you. In my mind, I rarely write so-called “pretty poems” but this one seems to fit this time of the year.

I get my sense of imagery and metaphors for the fact that I was once a practicing artist and a damn good one. Thanks for a great eye doctor I can now see a lot more and appreciate not just natures beauty but all of the cosmos.
