Midnight

James Alexander

Midnight

Midnight’s ebony sky

over an ebony sea

a mirror reflection

is what I see.

White headed crescents

racing toward shore

collapsing against sand

with a thunderous roar.

As waves crash

in rhythmic breaks

my heart responds

at a faster pace.

On a moonless night

as I sit in wonder

of Mother ocean’s

wondrous power

the song of the tides

to a child of the sea

in silence and furor

beckons to me.
