The Cricket

James Alexander

A Cricket

there is a cricket in my room

right in the middle of the floor

don’t know how it got here

must have crawled under the door

a big ole cricket with spindly legs

it doesn’t chirp, it’s not that kind

and with the music that I play

it doesn’t seem to mind

my motto is live and let live and

when I’m close it doesn’t flee

and its motto is if I don’t move

maybe he just won’t notice me

if it had me worried

I’d toss it out on its ear

but it doesn’t have one

besides I’ve nothing to fear

and really its life is short

so why not some comfort

from the cold outside

where it’s days be numbered

it’s not much of a pet

it doesn’t know any tricks

it’s really kinda boring

just walks around and sits.

so I thought I’d get some fish

to put in an aquarium tank

drop in some colored gravel

and fill it with plastic plants

not much of a life I know

but better than being alone

as for the cricket and I

we just call it home

Great rhyming, which is hard to do, a cricket and fish will get you through.

    • James Alexander

Sometimes things just fall into place.
