Topeo Julie

Paul Bell

Topeo Julie, she shows you what to do
She'll take your hand and see you through
Never asking questions what's your name
Its all the same, it's in the game
Topeo Julie stranded without grace
Fifty dollars in any place
Forcing a smile to please the guy
A gala performance amidst the sighs
Remembers a time not long ago
A younger girl upon the road
Seeking excitement and things to do
Left for the city to see them through
Topeo Julie cries with shame
Reads the letter with her mother's name
We're doing fine, how are you
Your friends are asking for you too
A busy night in a town of doom
Faraway scream from an empty room
People in a hurry to get on by
Nobody rushes to reason why
Topeo Julie cries in vain
The final words of her mother's name
Topeo Julie stranded without grace
Fifty dollars left in place

I believe many young women ended up in this sad situation. Often duped into believing that life would be much better for them in a city or in another country. Very sad situation.
