Midwinter

Draven

A blackbird soars through the clear blue sky

battling against the icy wind

flying parallel with Severinsbrücke

looking down and into the Rhein

and seeing the water sparkling

with reflection from the midwinter sun.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Inspired by Cologne. I was catching the tram today and just wrote what I saw when I crossed over the bridge :) minus 3 degrees today - that is freezing for this Aussie. Also, I tried mulitple times to upload a photo (on my phone and on the PC) but it never worked. I had this problem originally with my profile pic too. If anyone has any insights or advice on this, let me know by DM please!

Gorgeous imagery but then the scenery throughout Germany is beautiful. You capture the scene so gently with your words, so wanna walk through the black forest.

        • Draven

Thank you so much! I have been fortunate to see a whole lot of Germany through my touring job, yet I have not visited the Black Forest, it is on my list. Perhaps next year.

Lovely writing ! I love blackbirds … just saw one outside … pretty birds

          • Draven

Thank you! I am not sure if it was a blackbird, or indeed just a black bird. Haha. πŸ™‚

Yes , male blackbirds have a bright yellow beak .. females dull brown yellow beak .

Actually maybe it wasn’t a blackbird earlier … not sure .

Can feel for you in that low temp. dear Draven - your words paint so well nature's struggles when it is cold -

Thank you very much! I was well rugged up today, but glad I wasn't outside for long!

Minus 3, that's like summer in Britain.
You would think, birds being sensible creatures, they'd bugger off to warmer climates.

                  • Draven

Haha unless they're used to them too! πŸ˜›

A vivid portrait of nature's very own art, snapped in high literal definition. You write very well gifted one. An attractive piece this is!

Beautiful description. Would love to go to Germany, in spring or summer or autumn - I fear the icy wind.

Germany is beautiful! I think my favourite time is Spring though, this is the time I would usually visit, and then when I eventually moved here, this was the time I came. πŸ™‚
