Memories

As the seconds count down
Time moving forward without fear
December's almost done
Am I ready for the New Year?

Old memories rekindled
So many from the past
New memories were made
Some I pray will not last

Easy to forget what makes me smile
Easier to remember all the pain
Laughter and heartache
I accept both as the same

The good and the bad
More memories will be made
Some I'll choose to keep
While others I'll  let fade

What do I want to remember?
The smiles or the tears
Not living for myself
Is the memory I fear

To let the past go
I'll look forward to making memories again
