Yule

Draven

The Yule Season is
a time to celebrate joy, love and gathering.
To look back on the year gone
and look ahead at what the future may bring.

Especially in unknown times,
these times of darkness and separation,
is when we need community now,
is when we truly need celebration.

It was once comforting, to hear those words,
"Home is just a plane ride away".
Until flight caps, hotel quarantine and snap lockdowns
seem like they're now here to stay.

In the limbo land of waiting
wishing for that geography won't allow.
My past visits me in my dreams,
but my home is here in the now.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I'm not gonna lie, this hurt a bit to write. I am not even sure if it is good. But it doesn't matter, I need to share it. Christmas isn't something I celebrate much, I am usually away from my family and at work. Not being able to get home to see them and my home country in general is definitely taking it's toll on me though.

This pandemic if by past trials Spanish flu influenza will last at least 3 years but im guessing this ones playing the long game and is going to affect our lives for years not just illness but has you say travel restrictions especially places like Australia with its strict quarantine rules . At least Germany has beer and great food

    • Draven

I think it is incomparable to the Spanish flu being that the world is much more connected now. I am just hoping it wont take much longer...
Haha Germany is a great country although for me beer and the food were not at the top of the list of reasons why I chose to live here!

        “Especially in unknown times”
        Perfectly worded.

Some day we'll laugh at this.
Remember those years when we stayed indoors, the bars were shut, it was brutal.

I had the same thoughts and I know you mean well, but it is much more than bars being shut and staying indoors to me. So, probably too soon 😛

I suppose being away from aussie is a bit of a bind, but will make the journey back even better.
