A Poetic New Year

Accidental Poet

As one year closes out

Another takes its place

Only the numbers change

A new numeric face

Also known as

Out with the old, in with the new

Up to the plate

Steps up my Muse

My Muse well rested

Until called back in urgency

As I needed to grieve

My Father in emergency

Like the ending year

His time was up

He just had to go

Elevator going up

And me being me

I had to be poetically correct

In honor of my Dad

Let my pen dance with respect

I know no need to say it, but

Sorry for my absence here

Now I’m back

To write in a brand-new year

(edited)

Your final year of 2021

A year I’ll not forget

Rest assured my memories of you

Now co-exist with respect

        AP,

        โ€˜Begone 2021
Iโ€™d just as soon forget you

With hope, I look forward to 2022โ€™

This last stanza is exactly how I feel about 2021. Iโ€™m hoping and praying that 2022 will be much kinder. Thank you for sharing your wonderful poem.
