Atone

James Alexander

Atone

I can see you slipping away

yet there is nothing I can do,

there is nothing I can say.

Love comes with a price,

a price I am willing to pay.

I will always be here waiting

in case there comes a day

when you have need for me

in some small caring way…

is there something I can do

is there something I can say

to calm your aching heart

and send the sadness away?

For everything there is a season

a time for love and a time alone

and for each there is a reason

for which I am trying to atone.
