Lux Aeterna

Buzz Bray

Lux aeterna. Eternal light.

We

More than life or death,

More than we touch or hear.

We sense it

Energy? Consciousness?

What is ME?  US?

Soul? Speak to me.

You have lived before

And yet again

Keeping your secrets.

Allowing only guesses

Of your essence.

Transcendent we

Living forever

Transcendent we

Larger than all the cosmos

Tinier than the smallest quark

More significant than galaxies,

Fragile, but permanent.

A whisper of the spark

The divine moment

Unseen, unmeasured.

Transcendent we

Desiring eternity

Faced with mortality

Living paradox

Hint of the creative power

Signal to all the universe

ME exists

Means something

Brings joy

Consolation

And to its extreme

Affects forever

Works for good

Battles bad

And to its last earthly moment

Sings the lifesong

Loves

Laughs

Cries

Transcendent

-WE-

Casts its light

Into eternity.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Spirituality is not necessarily religious. We are more than our physical senses reveal. We are transcendent. The grave is not our final destination. The thing that makes you YOU lives on. The divine spark in every human being is precious and deserves respect.
