If the eyes are the gateway to the soul, then what do You see in me
Will You meet me at the golden gates or turn Your face from me
From the start to the end, I’ll only write my life in ink
Mistakes and failures teach what should never be erased
Written down permanently, take Your place
This is not perfection, this is a new surrender
Destroy everything I know, the desert or the snow, faithfulness still remains within the pain
The nights spent screaming, begging You to show, begging You to help me grow
Am I never abandoned, am I never alone, in my days when I feel unknown
When darkness begets darkness, when faith begets faith
Will you take me or make my grave the bed I lay
Every question, every doubt, these are mine to bear
Your words are hard to hear when You speak so softly
I am not afraid to die
I’m afraid that You’ll say depart from me, for I never knew you
Could You part the sea and bring it down on me as You pull me from the deep
The cynicism's domain, where doubt rules night and day
Does this burden You give me put me one foot in the grave
Or is it only for the brave
You call me to step into uncertainty and I’ll walk into the fire, burn away other desires
Great faith is forged
When love like fire comes down, consume me,
So that only soul remains with this honest heart until the body is made new, until I see You
A field of faith, seeds planted, taking nothing for granted
I will step into the dark and follow through, break me down until I know You
Burn away the flesh, so only the soul is bare until the day I see You there
Spit into the mud and heal my eyes to see the blood in me
The shattered broken soul is a sign of the will to rebuild
I am ascendant, not by my strength alone, I am ascendant by grace alone
Separate skin, bone and soul, you’ll see who lives in me
The veins of grace flow into my heart to wash it clean
I am ascendant, the night has its place, as does the day
Lord God, I plant my flag, may faith remain in all of my days
