What do you see when you look at me,
A human, a spirit, or god?
Or just a bag of skin, filled with meat and bone,
Like that of a pig or a dog?
But isn’t it true that they have souls too,
Have you ever staired deep in their eyes?
They are full of compassion, kindness, and love,
On top of that they never speak lies.
When I look with my heart instead of my mind,
I can see god in everything,
The birds and the bees, the plants, and the trees,
From the ocean to each mountain spring,
I know we are all one, all children of the sun,
And even it is a part of our soul,
If you don’t believe, just ask the tree’s little leaves,
What it is that they need to grow,
We need both day and night, the dark and the light,
We need sunshine but also need rain,
We need mountains and valleys, forests, and deserts,
We need joy but we also need pain,
We get the air that we breathe from our brothers the trees,
We get water from our father the sky,
We trade amongst one another, the flesh of our mother,
But we must return it to her when we die.
Life’s a balancing act, like blocks that are stacked,
Pull out one and it all falls apart,
The only true wealth is health, for the whole not the self,
So, we must all do our part.
All the gold that you stash cannot undo your past,
No amount of money can keep you from death,
You have only this moment why not fill it with love,
And cherish each magical breath.
So, each day when I rise, I open my eyes,
And say thank you to all that I see,
Thank you to the earth and the trees, the sun, moon, and the breeze,
I am grateful to you and for me.
