Words

sorenbarrett

It’s been years since we’ve talked

So many words have passed between us

But it’s been years since we’ve talked

We used to talk of dreams and funny things

We used to laugh until we cried

Now it’s been so long since I’ve seen your smile

How long has it been since happiness died?

You lay so close to me

Yet you’re so far away

You would lay on my shoulder

You used to giggle and play

We swore to be together forever

And so we are, in skin and bone

Cold words stiffen my muscles

Your eyes burn through me

then leave me alone

It’s been years since we’ve talked

How can I know where you have gone?

It’s been years since we’ve talked

And I feel the chilled winds of winter coming on

Powerful words about words and how they can hurt even without being meant to. To lose that communication in a relationship is terrible. You convey the feelings very well. Excellent read.
