If I See You Again

Charles Edward York

If I see you again

I would go mad with joy

And surely

Throw my arms

Around your long lost body

Breathe in

Your unforgettable smile

And remember

What joy feels like.

How can I not recall

All those things

Life sewed so beautifully

Into our tapestry

The way we say hello

Things we find so funny

And the rainy days

We endured

And wept together.

If I see you again

I will surely celebrate

With total abandon

And dance with you

Leap like rabbits

At our reunion

Knowing we were made

To savor the time

Over morsel of memories.

So when will I see you

I keep asking in silence

When flowers take

Your place instead?

A stone now

Represents your name

Cold inhabits

Your absence here

And too many of my tears.

Sweet words of love echo in this sad poem so perfectly penned. So sorry for your loss 🌷

A lovely, haunting take on a universal emotion. As I read this, I was also watching two bunnies (cottontails here in Texas) leaping about each other, probably courting or playing, where I had left some bird seed last night. The poem and the garden blurred together in my imagination. Best to you CEY.
