The Heat of the Day

MattDyer

When a man’s word is all he has

And the determination in his eyes burns bright

Stand aside or fall behind, in step with the city of orphans

Inhabiting the mind of the man left for dead on the side of the road

Don’t stand between a man with nothing to lose and something to prove

So we choose the words that were left buried in the dirt

The spirit burns with a desire to be known

Decimation, devastation come from this man’s mouth

With bloody teeth and few words left to choke

Set a fire to the past, rise up and hear what’s spoken

How can a man burn with so much fire shut up in his bones

Without coming undone by the rising sun

Decimation, damnation form what lies underneath the words caught up in his throat

This man has no home, a harbinger of the lost

Just breathe

Words screamed will fade

In the heat of the day
