ModernBard

When we sit, we wonder why

Life is so upending.

There are people who will try

To get you on them spending.

What was that you said about

Youth indoctrination?

I, for one, have no doubt

This is how you rule a nation.

The indignation you can stir up

With talk of patriotism;

You can ride them in stirrups

Straight up to Big Capitalism.

Teach them to cut off their own noses.

Funny how no one opposes

When you feign to step outside the law

And do something raw,

So long as it serves convictions

And tempts our predilections.

  • dusk arising

When you've got the nation indoors
And you need to hear some applause
There's seldom a thing more hearty
    Than a Boris lockdown party.

Hey ModB - A bit late I know, but better late.......

The links you make between consumption, patriotism as diversion (misdirection?) is well made.
