What's more tragic than the story of Romeo and Juliet?
Romeo could've been a scary man and Juliet part of another statistic.
My parents were no Romeo and Juliet but if you believed hard enough, that's what they could've been.
My father liked to yell a lot and sometimes my mother would end up with an ice pack on her face.
If only they were the Romeo and Juliet we grew up with. At least in the end we knew their love was real.
Sadly Juliet Jr. Had to go to school and explain that her parents couldn't come to parents night. They couldn't even be in the same room with one another.
That when Romeo visited, he had to come in secret while Juliet was at work.
That when they were still together, Juliet Jr. Could hear their arguments in the bathroom and her older siblings had to pull her away so she didn't have to hear what they've heard for years.
My parents were no Romeo and Juliet but they were my parents none the less.
Their story was something even Shakespeare couldn't handle. It was real and it was terrifying.

i recently found out my father was abusive and my mother divorced him. this is honestly really relatable and very well written!
