A politicised, Pandemic

L. B. Mek

Let’s see, their concocted narrative

begins with a, COVID being ‘leaked’

from Eastern Asia

(but don’t ever mention Fauci and his friends

owning offshore labs, and their rabid bats)

then, COVID took a permanent, stranglehold

on our way of life in the developed, West

had our first variant, visit us

from Central Asia, with all that fear inducing hoopla

and now our festive season, defeating

outbreak, threatens us via Southern Africa

let me - too, have a go

at this guessing game

to our media’s, politically sensationalised

finger pointing, antics

next up, to be blamed for ever-more

horrific variant’s will be Southern America,

and in its fourth-year cycle

COVID’s worst

will be rising-up from marginalised, Australia.

How convenient, this plot trail reads

for us with first-world, fears

acting ignorant of reality’s statistics,

while busily dividing ourselves

into ever-more fractured, fractions

meanwhile, the rest of our impoverished world

has suffered significantly less, fatalities

surviving, on barely 25%

of the available: vaccines…?

Ten times the population

sacrificed, to survive

on one fourth

of the vaccines manufactured

yet death tolls, are highest

in the west, where vaccines are a must

please, forgive my ignorance

and kindly help me, make sense

of such contradictory, figures and facts?

Budget’s, what are they?

500k flights, as mere job perks

and hedonistic staff parties with no boundaries

and while the law abiding, are made to huddle

in hand count group sizes, who knew

MP’s got immunity from viruses

as well as society’s laws and protocols…!

I second each line of this outing of needed exposure L.B. - - - wrecked and sinking are believable politics and where will it all end I wonder.

    • L. B. Mek

      great comment, thank you!
      I'm not sure
probably, that same deflating idealist French revolution - frenzy
      behead a few famous names
masquerade a fleeting mirage of mindless, meritless equality
and then, watch our dreams flitter - away
and the next set of crooks, take the reigns
and gradually start, turning-up that tax and hypocrisy
      dial,
to begin a new turn of that cyclical - cycle, yet again..
(it will only end, when we start holding our MP's
      as accountable
as we do, that tele sales rep or dentist's receptionist clerk
      and realise, they - WORK
PAID, by our hard earned taxes!)
sorry for going into another tirade, dear Fay
      like most people
'regressive-politics' is a trigger topic for me

Can’t deny the true words…the covid was worst hitting every soul and bread…the economies hurt…the population on tenterhooks…what are seasons, what are festivals…those questions well posed…and the politicians dining somewhere just keep talking about what next…while the next minute a new variant enters the world

      • L. B. Mek

        yeah, just endless hypocrisy...
good to just have a good long rant
and find a release for the build-up
        of our frustrations and anger
        then move on
doing what we can and hoping for the best..
thanks for the impassioned comment, dear poet

      • Vamsi Sudha

Dear Mek !! You really poured out your inner exasperation regarding the Pandemic. So strange that a micro Virus seems to create havoc in the whole world. Looking for brighter days when this would End and we get back our Lively days.. Nice bold write !! Thanks !!!

        • L. B. Mek

          lol, so true
I did just dump my exasperation into a scribble
sorry, I'll try and post something more poetic
          in my Friday share..
I appreciate you still being kind enough
to comment and support, dear poet

          Good write, L.B.
          Maybe they are just stronger.
Strokes, Cancer, Heartatcks, Suicides, Eating disorders, are fewer as well. Seems like what makes them sick kills us. The homeless population in the US has a lower rate as well.

          • L. B. Mek

that last line, blew my mind when I found out
            thought they would be devastated
since especially in the USA, the homeless
basically make their own street side
small, inner city communities and camps..
makes it all sound so fantastically, strange!
thanks Jerry, some pertinent points you make

          • Rozina

Well said. In some poorer countries however, testing is not so widely available because of the cost factor, fewer labs to process the specimens etc. So the numbers infected are not truly represented.

            • L. B. Mek

              yeah, that's why I stated
              'fatalities'
as coroners, still assign cause of death
so that's a greater comparative statistic..
              thanks

            • Goldfinch60

The last two lines are so very true Mek.

              Andy

              • L. B. Mek

                yeah, I agree
                my whole rant/tirade
can be shortened to just those two lines, Andy

              • Neville

if it needs to be said, then say it like you mean it, I say ....

I just hope your middle name aint Nostradamus ... but wotever the case, I'm in your corner ...... Neville

                • L. B. Mek

                  lol, no it ain't Hyung
forget prophecy, I have a hard job
                  just deciphering what's before me
                  in my everyday, reality... lol
                  (and
'but wotever the case, I'm in your corner'
is one of the most comforting lines
I have ever, had the privilege to read
                  thank you!)

                • Paul Bell

I must admit, I found it a bit strange with the Omicron variant. The South Africans were wondering why we were all running around like headless chickens, and you're spot on, we've more vaccines than we know what to do with, and the most deaths.

                  • L. B. Mek

                    'The South Africans were wondering
                    why 'We': were all
running around like headless chickens' lol
                    yeah,
                    that just captured the sentiments
that inspired these write, my friend
                    great comment!

                  • Eugene S.

Thank you for writing this. I wonder if others in the future will see your heartfelt words and the words of so many others on this site? I wonder if they will take heed, for IT truly has affected us all...

                    • L. B. Mek

I'm so sorry for my belated reply
I just noticed your comment, thank you!
and who knows about that uncertain future
                      and what it promises
I'm just humbled my words resonate
with the few who see them now..
an indicator that wiser mind's still prevail
                      somehow

L,B. Thanks for the relevant poem. I like your verve, it has a 60's "Point The Mirror At Yourselves"quality,
                      Reminiscent of Ginsberg and Dylan.
Thanks also for your warm comments. Best, TS James

                      • L. B. Mek

what high praise, Ginsberg and Dylan lol
                        that kind of unattainable genius
                        is humbling, as comparison
but your generous words, are cherished
                        all the same..
thank you! glad you enjoyed the read
