To the parents

DoNotGoGentle

To the parents that walked into our rooms and called us lazy and told us to stop moping around because we were laying down when we physically couldn’t get up because we were in such a place our minds wouldn’t let us.

To the parents that told us not words directly but my actions and work arounds that our feelings didn’t matter.

To the parents that sighed and said “here we go again” whenever their child tried to share what was going on.

To the parents that only listened and supported us when it was beneficial to them.

To the parents that said they would always be there do us and to call them even when it got bad never showed interest or cared.

To the parents that never wanted you to be happy.

To the parents that didn’t let you do things growing up only because they didn’t want to have to deal if the outcome of the decision was bad.

To the parents that said “you don’t have to do this but…” guilt tripping you into doing something.

To the parents that don’t take your mental diseases seriously enough.

To the parents that focused on your siblings more than you even though inside your were dying and you’re heart physically hurt.

To the parents that whenever you cried they would call you dramatic.

To the parents that when you got out of a relationship they were genuinely happy because they didn’t like the person and showed no interest in the painful hurting you went through.

To the parents that chose to have you but never really wanted you in the first place.

To the parents that couldn’t get there shit together fast enough so you had to grow up fast just to take care of yourself.

To the parents that made you scared of having kids in what day becoming just like them.

To the parents that made you scared to be with someone because of the fear of abandonment.

To those parents I say fuck you. If we lose our battles against depression you’re not allowed to cry for us or mourn us because you never truly cared about us.

To those parents I hope you know that we aren’t sticking around for your benefit or sake only because we have at least one person in our life or one thing in our life that gives us hope for a better future.

To those parents when we succeed you’re not allowed to say “that’s my kid” or “I raised them good”

To those parents I thank you for showing how not to be like you. For showing kids today that we don’t deserve that and neither do our kids in the future.

To those parents…. I hope you’re happy.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I guess what I’m trying to say is….”To my parents” I like this site because I get to truly express how I without the fear of my parents seeing (not like they would care) but I want honest opinions on my stuff.
