Love’s Consequence

jweai

With one swift lustful gaze,

You illude me towards an inevitable fate.

You dismiss my serenity in the kindest ways,

And lure me into an addled state.

I read your gestures like written prose

Upon your hands is only me

I treasure thoughts of you and what you show

And embellish whatever in myself you see.

The impossibility of us is what prompts me,

My soul thirsts for you to come forward.

Tell me your desires, everything you need.

Keep me forever in autumn, be my orchard.

I achieved everything I wanted before.

But this time, all I am is confused.

A risky thing to wish for, but I had to be yours

I should’ve known I’d end up bruised.

You’d be my drug, and then I’d bear the brunt.

We only feel it after there’s no more to say

I don’t wish to cry again or confront.

But I began to feel it’s a game you play.

I lost myself upon your presence

A fear of being hurt is my only curse

Love was always a deep pain’s essence

Don’t come back for me, you’ll make it worse
