Under that single street lamp...

Hailey Black

Under that single street lamp

Playful shadows chasing each other,

Telling different stories,

About how they first fell.

We were there as well,

Talking with others, at the table.

Sitting there singing, talking,

Not caring about tomorrow.

Braking all the rules,

What we just got by the teachers.

Smoking some cheap cigarettes,

Looking at the sky, searching for stars

But up there isn’t any.

Just the street lamp, that broke the dark.

We sat there side by side,

At silence not knowing what to say.

That when the first rain drop,

Fall down at my face.

You just stared at me, wiped down,

Putting you hand on my shoulder.

You gently pulled me closer,

Realizing I was cold.

And I know this was the right time,

But it was somebody else’s too.

Time quickly passed by,

And we didn’t needed the light.

We went home one by one,

Remembering that moment,

Under that single street lamp.
