Hanging

Rose.a.lee

When I was a young girl, my daddy said to me,

Don’t you look behind you cause there ain’t nothing to see.

Now that I’m getting older and I’m in good company,

The work weeks got me begging,

Big mans got me on my knees.

Oh I hope that everyone will be so proud of me,

But there ain’t no time for living when you hanging by your teeth.

There’s mamas stuck at home, dreaming about the glory days,

Singing; man when I was younger, oh I had some hell to raise.

And papas in the backyard, thinking ‘bout his kids and wife,

He always though it he worked hard, he’d live the simple life.

And yea he hopes that everyone will be so proud of him,

But its hard to keep on living when you’re hanging on a limb.

So isn’t that the story that they’ve spoon-fed to us all,

Work hard when you’re able, and be done by early fall.

I’ll be working thirty years from now, I’ll be working ‘till I’m dead,

But I don’t know no other way to keep a roof over my head.

And yea, I know that every one is god-damn proud of me,

But it’s hard to make a living, when you’re nearly six feet deep.
