Looking Back

Charmaine Bartlett

In the winter of my life, I'm looking back

Snow lay like a shroud.

I learned much from the hard times,

And the pain was loud

Ineluctable hard times

Pushed me to the limit

Developing endurance and strength,

But had I been able to

I would have dimmed it

I'm remembering the smell of alcohol

As I tried to sedate the pain

Poverty and suffering

Made me grateful

I have grown so much.

My life was fateful

Yeh - I'd vote for that; much to empathise with there, Charmaine.
