House Broken

rscurry1984

I took in the fresh air so deep until it was all I could take.

Leaving released my sufficated lungs from my worst mistake.

I didn't run away from the you I once knew,

Burning down that house left my vulnerable flames to smother the demon inside you.

The clear windows allowed the deceiving sunlight through.

Made to seem so shiney and bright, the shade quickly darkened thanks to you.

I left my personal privacy door wide open,

but I found the hindges torn out once again.

Those cabinets were beautifully built and stained,

until you violently ripped them off the wall, and only sharp pointy splinters remained.

I buried myself into my favorite book to try and mend the broken heart I hid inside.

But it wasn't enough, you had to tear the book seams wide open.

I loved the abstract pictures on the wall,

and the only photos of us, although you hated them all.

They were a rare reflection of me,

and now shattered glass and broken frames are all I see.

Feeling like I was trapped in this haunted house,

I felt all my blood rush out when I realized the haunting demon was you, my spouse.

On my knees for the first time I prayed.

I made a promising vow to myself this was the last time I'd ever be afraid!
