Dirge

Charmaine Bartlett

Looking at your picture

evokes memories, good and bad

Your acts of betrayal

elicit painful outrage.

Your cruel words like a dagger to my heart.

It has taken years to heal,

But, oh, how I miss you.

You saved my life so fragile,

then you took it away.

You violated my soul, mind, and body.

Warm, cuddly body.

I did my marital duty

While carrying a huge weight on my shoulders.

You were a master manipulator,

And I still miss you.
