Mother My Mother

Hokaoma

Mother my mother I thank the heavens for having made you mine and I yours

and that I call you mother

I bless this day decades ago when you first breathed life

Mother my mother I do not imagine a mere happy birthday would suffice

I am more than grateful

For your care, your guidance, your protection

And most of all your love

Mother my mother, never do I wish to be I away from you

For whole is what I am when I am with you

This at least scratches the surface of how much this day means to me

On this day I pray for your aging grace.

Grace which shall make live to enjoy what you wish me become

Mother my mother, Vida Efua Afful.
