Under our digital cover

Alexander J. Wolfe

Under our digital cover

A life spent without a date

A life posted of pictures to rate

A life exposed in posts on a page

A life with regrets that never fade

A life spent in a cyber cage

An app for pictures on your best days

An app for thoughts no-one will read

An app for jokes you never made

An app for nudes better unseen

An app for hookups and people to play

An app to waste what's left of your day

An app to swipe for another lay

An app to judge what people say

An app for everything masking your pain

A digital world leaving reality in shade

A reality where value is overshadowed

Overshadowed by pictures and posts

Pictures and posts better than yours

Options of people in the palm of a hand

People with value decided by others

People devalued by every fantasy

Stories and traits condensed to a cover

Save your judgement for another date

Take your time to experience reality

Skip the hookup and enjoy a date

Let their reality defy your fantasy

Put that digital world into your pocket

Deny that box from deciding your fate

Skip the cover and read the story

Defy your expectations blinded by vanity

Find the value hidden in humanity

You might just find what you couldn't uncover

There's a love in reality for you to discover

Because you experience life when you discard the cover

These digital covers hide our humanity

But in our reality we can find the things we could never uncover

This is the story of how I learned to love

I had to ditch the cover to discover my lover.

I love you Hannah, you discovered what I kept under my cover.

Very true, what happened to the days when life was more important than likes and views and going viral

I wish I knew, I was born in 2000 so I grew up in the digital age, yet I yearn for the old way of life. I feel like I don't belong in these times, I suppose I feel alienated by the pervasive influence of social media and technological addiction. Thank you or reading and thanks for your input!

I imagine that there are many amongst us that relate. I think there is something innate inside of us that finds our current reality hard to truly accept. Thank you for reading, I appreciate your input!
