Her favourite, were grapes

L. B. Mek

Priced to pocket change, range

photographed

to stratospheric, decadence’s reach

I couldn’t resist

there were three, stem clusters

one of dark grapes

one of red and one of green

I bought them all, for her

greedily

like a market stall, millionaire.

She, only had one handful bunch

of dark grapes

with her initial, big eyes

repressed

to self-sacrificing, slits

and she thanked me, profusely

washed and offered

all the rest, back to me

asked

if I’d eaten already

(I sigh and smile defeatedly

thinking

how I dream of buying her a Winery

just so she can have all the grapes

she ever wanted

but likely, she’d probably just take

a pane of its greenhouse's glass

as a memento, keepsake

or

were I capable of buying her

that mansion, she so - deserves

she’d take the keys

as her jingling, keepsake

and tell me to keep it, for myself)

eventually, I reply

that yes, I have feasted – heartily!

Amused

she quirks an inquisitive eye,

unable

to resist enquiring, what exactly I had

'oh, that same

intangible – everything

that’s nourished me, my whole life

your Love of course:

Mom!'

This is that debt, imbalance

with our mother’s.

Whatever we do

for those

rare, good ones

it can never, be enough

for they out-do us

where it counts, most

Love: unconditional!

All we can do

is keep

buying those grapes

and hope

eventually, we make a dent

in our

heartfelt gratitude’s, debt…

That's an awful lot of grapes to repay that gratitude. I do like the idea of a winery, though, that is definitely the perfect present. Imagine popping down to the cellar and grabbing a bottle every day for breakfast with your cornflakes.

    • L. B. Mek

      🤣
(I have heard of sour grapes
      not so much, sour cornflakes
      but hey
      after a few spoonful's, I'm sure
      it will all taste bittersweet
      such is life, dear poet....)
      thank you!

Beautiful sentiment in your words today which really moved me.

Those who can relate easily are the lucky ones, sadly many will have lived through a quite different experience. I know this from their poetry.

      • L. B. Mek

I know, it seems those 'good ones'
        are becoming ever more, rare...
        a poignant comment, Dusk
        as always, thank you

Gratitude and Love for mum has come out very well in your poem. For the love unconditional we owe them a lot. A winery can be a start. Enjoyed it.Thank you for sharing

        • L. B. Mek

well, a Winery as a mere 'start'
is far too ambitious for me, lol
but I know what you mean
our debt's water well, is just that deep..
          an insightful comment
          thank you, dear poet

What an ending with a debt of endless finding the right kind of gratitude! You have an abundance my friend thank you for sharing!

          Always appreciated

          • L. B. Mek

            'finding
            the right, kind
            of gratitude'...
(I shall ponder these wise words, my friend)
thank you, for penning such encouraging words
            your kindness, humbles me

A heart touching write. Long ago I was taught that accepting a gift was as important as giving one. The gift that mothers give is the greatest and our acceptance of it is the only way to show gratitude, Well done.

            • L. B. Mek

              now that, is wisdom
              we all need to incorporate
              in-to our way of thinking,
'that being able to receive, earnestly
              validates and adds value
to the gifts, we're given in our lives'..
I shall try to heed these words
              thank you! dear poet

              Dear Mek,
That was a great write for your Mother and your love and affection is just overflowing in your poem.
              Loved these lines..
              eventually, we make a dent
              in our
              heartfelt gratitude’s, debt…
How poetic is this expression..!! Loved it to the core. Thanks for this heart-touching poem !!

so glad you enjoyed and could relate
to my humble scribble, dear poet
                thank you!
for your overtly kind, words of support

A sentimental compose full of passions and feelings.

                • L. B. Mek

indeed, I was a little emotional
                  writing these words
thank you! for highlighting that sentimental element
of my humble scribble, dear poet

first the title made an impact on my mouth, taste buds & salivary glands .. and then it was like someone found the remote control I thought I had lost some time back and simultaneously pressed the warm glow and tears buttons .. N

                  • L. B. Mek

                    yeah, Hyung
someone pressed those buttons, on me
                    as well
when I started penning these words...
                    thank you!

Moms are special. So, Everything that includes her makes it more special, even buying grapes. I loved the thought behind 'range photographed to stratospheric'; also could see her face when I read 'quirks an inquisitive eye'; 'big eyes repressed'; Thank you for such a beautiful share.

                      • L. B. Mek

I'm so humbled that you take the time
                        to delve
into the inner lining of my word choices
what a generous way to support and encourage..
I thank you! with utmost sincerity, dear Poet
