Crying for Peace

Katrina D

Ukraine, Ukraine
I feel your desperate pain
Your incredulous fear
To absurdly lose
All that you hold dear
Betrayed by ruse
Of brother become foe
Subdued in full view
By the poison of a few
Now senselessly sowing
Sallow seeds of woe
Wolves in sheep's clothing
Casting a grotesque shadow
Of futile death and loathing
Mercilessly destroying dignity
With toxic masculinity
Forcing virulent fight
Or uneasy flight
Brutally ripping lives apart
Erasing history
from a severed heart
Yet no running from fears
As you walk alone
With bitter tears
To face the unknown
On this treacherous tightrope
Balancing twisted truths
And powerless hope
Under a hail of bombs
That darken your skies
Clouded by a pernicious veil
Of inordinate lies
So may the bear forever regret
And pray you may ever

Forgive or forget

May the Holy Virgin grant that peace will come soon. The Rosary rises to heaven on at least one voice. Well written.

Beautiful plea for peace. Love the simplicity of sorrow in these words: “ Now senselessly sowing
    Sallow seeds of woe”

I love this poem, it's so full of sadness and regret for the victims of senseless war coupled with a powerful criticism of both the instigators and war in general. A very well witten, deep felt poem. Thank you.
