The Lullaby

PS

Walking down the lane with a tune on my lips

Enjoying the breeze and the dewdrop kiss

Wondering what little miracle the long day holds

For that is a puzzle which none of us knows

 

Something stopped me from walking past

 As if tugging to say not so fast

It was a melodious voice but just so faint

When it came nearer, I sensed it so pained

 

Then I saw her at the end of the street

Holding her baby, she was about to retreat

The melancholy in her voice I could not ignore

Making me think I should stay a while more

 

Her eyes stayed long at her bundle of joy

Praying for all the good that he will enjoy

There was hope and love in her tear-filled eyes

Her courageous smile did not hold a disguise

 

What the future holds for him, she was not sure to know

Wherever life takes him, she did wish it to glow

Watching him cling to her, she seemed no more forlorn

And I traced back my steps with the lullaby lingering on...
