L. B. Mek

this book of a past

our choices have curated

we can still, salvage

to begin with, start

by letting its covers go

then those damp pages

when trimmed fighting fit

we'll add teardrop proof, covers

and blank rainbow pages

Oh but upon reading those tears of joy, tears of sorrow and loss will nonetheless flow. Teardrop-proof we may kid ourselves with but those words contained are words of a life lived and written from the heart. A heart which has known, still knows and shall continue to know the shedding of tears.

What, I wonder, would a recipient of those words some twenty-odd years after our demise make of them or the man who's words they are. This being in my mind, should either of my grandchildren happen across my own.

which words, at which era of a life...?
      'youth’s blind, sprinter
      middle aged, blunder
      or old age’s: anger!
      we all fall, for existence's
      tricks', my friend
and that next generation, will read us
      like we read, those
      who carved, this very path
      we're wading - through..
      well, those still reading
      that is
      as half of modernity's ignorance
      is born from refusing
the very wisdom, we've been bequeathed...
      lol
      'Cyclicality' and 'Change'
      the two, simultaneously
      refractory and contrary, guaranteed axioms
      to humanity's collective:
      'Crawl - Fly - Crash - Burn - Phoenix'
      rinse and repeat, history

Written words of truth and wisdom. Thank you.

I've always wanted to see just a pure white book, no writing on the cover, nothing. That would arouse my curiosity, and I would probably buy it on that basis.

          but the minute, we let
          our oily fingers, near it
its blemishes will start to show
          such is life
all is sweeter, as distanced dreams
          even that blank page
          seemed so pure, till
we couldn't resist, to ink out
          our appreciation
          of its inviting, beauty
          and thus
          we inevitably, destroyed
          that very - essence
          we longed to immortalise
          with our words...
          still, we do end up
with one or two decent poems
          along the way

In such great works I always fear to read in too much. Yet I can not help but see a book of life whose covers are not the up to us and therefor not as important as what lies between them No matter the cover life can always be salvaged which is up to us and how we trim the pages. Filling them with blank rainbow pages is a wonderful image of how to live. This is truly a wonderful poem of hope I bow to you.

                    • L. B. Mek

                      lol
what overtly generous praise, kind poet
all I can do, in reply
is humbly, bow to your kindness
and thank you! with the utmost sincerity
