black lacquered nails [a rough exterior, one]

she painted her nails messily, in dark shades
she hated the prissy shine, or so she claimed
when questioned about the fingerprints and fabric imprints and chips
in the smooth black lacquer
but really, she was simply too impatient
to wait until it dried
she worked with her hands, she wrote, she painted, she sketched and scribbled
and drying nails were not a concern of hers
but just in case
she always painted three layers
but it never kept the smooth shine
she claimed to dislike
