Less than a hundred years ago, women were expected to be silent.
Nothing more than pretty faces meant to please.
Ideas were swallowed and pride forgotten
For the satisfaction of strangers surpassed the value of human life.
Our ancestors fought for change
Found bravery and hope in the wake of heartache.
No longer would they inherit their mothers' silence
They screamed for change and the world finally listened

- Comment from author about the poem: This is the poem that inspired me to start writing as a genuine hobby. I had written one for a club assignment and, while I loved reading poetry and listening to spoken word, I had never really written poems of my own. I wrote this piece and, while I know it is not the best, it did encourage me to continue.

I think that this is great,,it shows how things have changed for women, very well written, keep it up, you're a great writer
Thank you
This is how we break our silence, simply by doing, even if we believe it not to be our best. Have you read ‘Your Silence Will Not Protect You.’ by Audre Lorde ?
