The Consequence of Expectation

Amaya_98

The consequence of perfection is a life of bitter expection.
Success may come with trials and tribulations,
But in this life you were given, failure is no longer an option.
But what would they say if you told them of your hesitation,
Of your fear and frustration
Of the deadlines and constant deliberation?
What would they say if you told them the truth behind the complications?
Would their reaction even matter in the face of your own accusations?
How could it?
When self-loathing seems to be your greatest motivation.
You are the consequence of expectation
So afraid of the slightest imperfection
You made their dreams your only aspiration
And in the end
You were forced to live in a nightmare of your own creation

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem was written based on my own personal experience. When I was younger, I achieved high marks in my academic studies which caused myself and others, mostly my father, to place a certain level of pressure on my shoulders based on the expectations they had for me. This poem basically represents my feelings on the subject.

    free yourself of that cage
    titled: assumption
    or that dream, of absolutism
    in knowledge
    or that egotistical, mirage poison
    of 'Best', in anything..
simply, endeavour to do 'Your' best
    and accept
    that which you cannot change
    and strive
    to fight for and influence
    that you, can...
    (thanks for sharing
such a profound and empoweringly, emancipating
    message!)

The imperfection, that the persistent pursuit of pefection becomes, is also a perfect beauty in its imperfect self. Keep going, your doing and writing fine 👌🏿
