I Cannot See Your Glasgow

Daniel McDonagh

I cannot see

Your Glasgow

That lit your

Heart and soul

And bore you on

A winters evening

Fed by fire

And coal.

There is a fog and mist

Set within my eyes,

Parched lips

That cannot taste,

The rain it dampens

The will of a song,

Sunshine has turned

To gray in the shade.

Familiar roads

Crack and erode

That felt like silk

Under your feet,

Grass once green

Now nicotine brown

With the stain of disease

Littering the streets.

The canal still flows

With no life

With a beating heart

So slow.

I am searching hard

For your lost smile

That once reigned

The skies of Glasgow.
