They label me as a woman,
Because that’s the first thing they notice.
They look at my figure and think they have the right to stare.
“She will make a great wife!” they say,
And if I don’t want to?
Well, that's not my choice to make.
“We’ve come so far!” they say
The pubescent boys that have the audacity to call themselves a “man” say.
The same “men” that rape.
The same “men” that abuse.
The same “men” that assault.
A man becomes a feminist, he’s praised.
A woman fights for her rights, she's labeled as “obnoxious”, or used as a joke.
I’m expected to do as told,
To cook and clean,
To have children, and to raise said children.
It doesn’t matter if I want to or not, does it?
“Just set the baby up for adoption” and then what? Have the child become one of the 400,000 children in the US foster care system? Hope that one of the two percent of this country that actually adopts finds them?
Because FORBID I get an abortion!
"It’s murder!”
“It’s unethical!”
No.
What’s unethical is that a cis MAN thinks he has the right to tell me what to do with my body.
It’s unethical for a MAN to try and tell me that i’m being “overdramatic”
It’s unethical for a MAN to value a clump of cells over my life. The life I've spent years making.
It’s unethical for the MAN to act like they know the daily struggles of a woman.
It’s unethical for a MAN to put a CHILD through the utter trauma of having to stare at the face of their rapist in their child every day.
It’s unethical for the MAN to put a pregnant child into a school and have her face harassment from her peers.
Do NOT tell me that I’m being “overdramatic”
Do NOT attempt to silence me.
Do NOT try to take away my rights as a human being.
Because if it was the man that carried the child? I guarantee this topic wouldn't be considered controversial.

- Comment from author about the poem: This is a poem I wrote that I feel really expresses my anger. I live in Ohio USA and these new abortion laws genuinely have me terrified as a woman. I'm only 14 years old and I know things will only get worse as time goes on. My rights are"t even constitutional so according to what this country was founded in its completely okay. I hope this poem changes some minds and allows people to have a more open and progressive view on things, such as women's rights.
