The street lamp

Hoolihooli

there are moments where I can tell when I will break down

if life was a maze I couldn’t count all the routes

but that is when I stare outside as the seasons change, searching for reasons There is one thing that stays the same; the street lamp

adorned with snow in the winter

I love the pure snow but I am considered a sinner

my parents are angered with me constantly when I say I’m not religious, I respect religion

I just don’t believe in it and that was my decision

the snowflakes fall and they fall harder

I feel my mind too except it’s getting farther

let the cold air rush in your face

it’s the only time I don’t hesitate

lie in the snow where I’ll be buried too

Winters my favorite season cause it is as harsh as you

the street lamp still turns on at the stroke of night

Even in spring there are flowers growing on its side

spring is essential cause it shows me I too can bloom

I can grow as I learn, wilt when I sulk, rise again as long as I have a little bit of hope planted in some small room

the sun gives me warmth every spring I feel like I’ve never received

nature gets prettier in the spring, more than you’ve perceived

more so every spring I’ll never get over those blue skies

they are the same shade as your eyes

in the summer street lamp you are still on

singing your same sweet old song

I hate summer for many things

its too hot and I can’t take the heat it stings

I’ve  already been burnt in the kitchen

all I want is a popsicle while all the other people my age plan on ditching

in the fall it is my second favorite

the month I was born every time it rolls around it’s so savoring

the leaves change their color

like I change my age and my ways every year

the more I stare at the orange, reds and yellows falling on the ground close to the street lamp

the more I believe that I can and can’t

Yet there is the street lamp

Right as peace is in my grasp

Not weird at all, thank you I was hoping for a more peaceful atmosphere yet also I wanted to make sure there was an element of sadness to it

Amazing feel to the poem. Strong expression as to how the street lamp has been your pillar of support through the seasons. I wanted to see winter tho ๐Ÿ™ Apart from that, the rhyming feels a little bit forced. I think that if you wrote this in a free verse, there would be more expression through how the street lamp kinda gives you some freedom and room to breathe through your struggles. It is what i think tho, so if you were going for rhymes anyway, that's fine. Well done ๐Ÿ™‚

I wrote winter as the first season itโ€™s my favorite. I also love rhyming so yes I did rhyme and Iโ€™m not a huge fan of free verse because I never know what to write during free verse but maybe Iโ€™ll consider writing it as free verse. Glad to hear your feedback
