L. B. Mek

Empower, your awareness!

See that tremor

barely a flicker

between, fluttering eyebrows

and a blink n miss

stifled sneeze, only

there’s no breeze

this shudder

is emanating from somewhere

deep within.

Most, pass it off as nervousness

or that ‘sensitive nature’

labelling

of degradingly dismissive denunciation

to that suffering

people, refuse to acknowledge

as having witnessed

fearing, all those ugly

complications, that arise

from

‘getting involved’…

Please, have more credit

for that integrity

you, were born with

Refute Reject and Renounce

Suffering

as and when you come across it

No need

for heroically elaborate measures

Simply

acknowledge, that which you bare

Witness, to

Help, in whatever way you can

and above all else

just demonstrate a little

Compassion

let that scared, haunted individual

you Witness,

Recognise

Empathy’s existence: in our world!

Help, in whatever way you can

    and above all else

    just demonstrate a little

    Compassion

    let that scared, haunted individual

    you Witness,

    Recognise

    Empathy’s existence: in our world!

So very true. Compassion is so underrated but far more definite and real than the subtle ambiguities of love.

thank you! for reemphasising my message, dear Poet
      how very kind

An expressive writing , Mek . So important to show compassion towards those who may be suffering .. in any way , I guess .

You know some people can be so cold and lacking in compassion towards people who are hurting in life

I know it’s not the same thing but I have mental health problems .. and my neighbours have acted unkind and sometimes rude

Compassion is so important .. a cold uncaring behaviour truly helps nobody

I'm sorry, hope you have someone you can go to
to listen and help with your worries
you never have to fight your battles alone, dear Poet
thanks for adding your personal voice
and imbuing more depth, to my humble scribble

A lot of the time the public do get involved, social workers get involved, yet at the end a kid will die, then the inquiry starts, and it goes on and on.
In a lot of these cases, the signs are stark, yet they give the parents the benifit of the doubt.

        • L. B. Mek

Indeed, after the fact: 'the signs are stark'
but, like its often hard to differentiate
          between, a nuisance headache
          and a debilitating migraine
          in real time
its often hard to identify those same signs
          that foreshadow such horrific events;
so who to blame, 'after the fact' - is
          in my humble opinion
less a priority than, Empowering people
by giving them the required information
to pick up on the hints, early enough
          to make a difference..
in the old days, they used to say
'it takes a village to raise a child'
          we need to remember this
          and help, where we can
          knowing, that in modernity
          voicing our opinions on others
          parenthood choices, will often
          cause us problems;
          but still, we must try...
(as for those vile, putrid creatures
          posing as humans
          while hurting, the most vulnerable
          in our society...
          well
lets just hope there really is a Hell
and it only has Entry gates!)

        • Distant View

We are made more aware of children suffering, yet still it goes on. The system is failing many of them, for sure. So sad.

          • L. B. Mek

            Indeed, it a sad situation
            made worse
            by our generational trend
            to exist in isolated pockets
            dulling, our awareness levels.
            Still, we must try
            and hope
            and never give up!
thank you for the thoughtful words, dear Poet

            • Rocky Lagou

A beautiful poem L.B. I feel so many overlook and neglect other's feelings and emotions and would rather pass it off than try to communicate and share compassion. I know in this hateful world, it's abundant. I hope for more kindness.

              • L. B. Mek

                May goodness, ever: Prevail!
                dear Poet
thank you for the insightful comment

              • dusk arising

So sad that we need to be reminded.

              • Rozina

Compassion. Very, very true Mek. Thank you for this poem.

thank you for commenting and supporting, dear Poet
                  Compassion, is a word
                  that's becoming extinct, I fear...

Integrity is another one of those things that have gone missing in our world. Always help others in trouble.

                    yeah, so very true Andy
a basic decency factor in our overall
                    perspective on life
and our roles in society, is being dwindled down
with every, striving step of progression
we of modernity, leap blindly towards..
                    We really need to insure
what has helped our humanity, survive
                    is carried forward, aside
                    our strive for progression..
There's little point in curing cancer
                    is we're simultaneously, cultivating
                    a cancerous, society...

these words were simply crying out to be writ .. I personally believe a lot of decisions & actions either one way or another are not taken through fear of maybe getting it wrong .. I shall send you Mek my treatise on risk assessment, risk management and positive risk .. in the meantime, we need more of this ............................. Neville

and thank you! I 100% agree
