On a February Morning

Harrison03

Along the Dnieper lies a legendary city,
home to wonderful people and plenty of history.

A beautiful culture to be cherished and shared,
Up until recently no one was scared.

The streets were lively - full of joy and laughter,
Glamorous views for all to gape at.

This all changed on a February morning,
Russians were swarming,
with no prior warning.

24th was the date they began the incursion,
in tandem with bombs,
the country was burning.

Superficially it seemed that Russia would win,
but what they overlooked
was the resistance.

A country united like never before,
with a stiff upper lip and lots of support.

In the heart of Russia - where exists a monopoly
couldn't have expected a second Thermopylae

The steel of which Ukrainian's hearts are made,
are stronger and firmer than any bullet or blade.

They weathered the storm that Russia bestowed,
no matter how fierce, dark, or cold.

After weeks of torment, evacuation, and death,
The Russians had realised they were out of their depth.

The offensive was halted,
and Kyiv could breathe,
Ukrainian land was being retrieved.

A disaster for Russia is what it became,
that is what happens invading Ukraine.
