Notice of absence from arqios
Be kind….
…. words don’t rewind
Be kind….
…. words don’t rewind
Red train rested at Rotterdam station
Over the border to meet a friend
Trains all over Europe pass here
Today is a bright and sunny day
Every person glows in its brightness
Realising not a former disaster, that
During the 40's destruction erupted
Along these very streets, evacuated
Murderous bombs wreaking havoc
Over the border to meet a friend
Trains all over Europe pass here
Today is a bright and sunny day
Every person glows in its brightness
Realising not a former disaster, that
During the 40's destruction erupted
Along these very streets, evacuated
Murderous bombs wreaking havoc

- Comment from author about the poem: It was 14th of May, 1940 when the Luftwaffe decimated the city of Rotterdam, Netherlands, killing 210 soldiers and 940 civilians. Visited a friend in Rotterdam in 1995. It was a wonderful time. Unbeknownst to me at that time, this historical, tragic memory lay underneath its vibrant veneer.
