The Light That Shines So Bright

hraebingham12

All my friends have left,

Left me in the dark,

But one of them left a mark on my Heart.

This friend was more than a sister or brother,

Less than a lover,

But still, why do my thoughts hover,

These thoughts  keep me awake at night,

This friend,

They shine their light,

And as it glows so bright,

I wonder how,

I wonder when,

This friend became my light in the darkest night.

A friend to keep,

A friend to light,

Light my way in the darkest night.

But now they’ve left,

I'm all alone,

And nothing compares to the light I’ve been shown.

I thought they were kind,

They broke my heart,

And now I wish,

I had never been shown,

The light that guides me through the night.

With all this pain,

I try hard not to cry,

But I’m missing that light,

The one that shines so bright,

So my when I wish on that first-star tonight,

My only wish is that I might,

See that light that shone so bright.

So when this friend,

You know who are,

Hears my wish,

I hope that you knew,

I never meant to hurt you.

Please hear my cry,

I don’t want our friendship to die.

  • Comment from author about the poem: My best friend and I had just gotten into a fight, and we didn't speak for a week. I was extremely depressed and needed their light back in my life during that time. I started to write, and this is what came out. Our relationship hasn't been the same since, but it gets better day by day.

Wow, really could have used this a little while back. Hope you've recovered and/or past this. People come and go, but some are more stubborn for us to let go of.

I can so relate to the despair
    imbued in your lines..
hope things work out for the best
    eventually..
