Still, go on

Jem

For a second I saw myself,

Covered in red,

Blinded.

The pink flame within

Has almost died.

It's grasping for oxygen

To live and go on, and pursue

The moments of hope I've hoped for,

I thank God for not letting it end,

For not letting my mind forget

What I was fighting for.

For a second I saw myself,

Covered in red,

Blinded.

I almost see my drive die,

But with the soft touch of clouds

I was reminded,

This flame could've never died,

This will continue to spark

And speak the words of mine.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Hi! Just got back from my break. There was a lot going on. The national election in the Philippines was finished already and the presidential candidate that I'm supporting (though I'm not a registered voter) lost. She is a woman who also served as the lawyer of the poor, a representative of her province in the lower house of congress, and the Vice-President of the Philippines. She's a good woman, whom I was sure, is the best candidate out of all. But she lost to the son of a dictator, a tax evader, and a liar (there are evidences). And it wasn't because of the candidate himself, but because of the Filipinos. I am angry, dismayed, and full of negative emotions within. It was our chance to change the country, but 31 million Filipinos chose the candidate who've been part of a corrupt political dynasty. And worse? They are invalidating our emotions just because I'm still 16 and unable to vote. Why do they believe that non-voters shouldn't have a say in the country's future? This is a plain joke. But, amidst the rage of my emotions, I recalled what I was fighting for. Although I'm now quite ashamed of my nationality, it was because of the Filipinos why I'm supporting someone who I think is the best one to lead the country. My countrymen is the reason why I'm politically aware, not just my own hardships, it's because of the tiring situation of every Filipinos. So again, I need to go on, never stop, and continue to be a Filipino.

Dear friend Your determination and tenacity does you great credit. In my country USA, I find people who never think to question the honesty and motives of those they allow to lead them. I find it hard to even watch the news, because each time I become more disheartened. I applaud your words, it is only through caring passionately that we hold onto our sense of morals and values as human beings. When we cease to think, and allow others to do the thinking for us, we become the automaons that they will manipulate. I love this poem and I love your courage, it is a true fav.
