Je Suis Charlie

Charles Edward York

Je Suis Charlie-a poem dedicated to Charlie Hebdot

I am Charlie
The truth is beautiful
The truth is an orphan
A celebrity of fashion
And a monster unwanted
By those who dare not desire
The gravity of company
Too heavy for a lover to carry

I am Charlie
The integration
Of man and woman
Of Heaven and Hell
The ecstasy of everlasting bliss
The agony of endless suffering
I compose the laughter of pain
And the cry of prohibited joy

I am Charlie
The neighbor you tolerate
The enemy you dare not upset
I am the freedom undefined
I am the secret all exposed
I ride naked upon a horse
Life unplugged and without a leash
And the song of silence out loud

I am Charlie
The target of ridicule and terror
The ghost from whom fear retreats
And the courage held captive set free
I will draw and paint reality
In pictures and words unexpected
For what is life without laughter
If living without tears is joke
