The Rose and the Weed

Merlin

The rose is loved

Unconditionally, blooming in a field

Of dandelions and daisies,

A speck of red against the golden light,

And yet they long to be in the shade

Swaying and curling

In Winter's long parade,

The rose wishes to be a weed

Hated but loved not for their beauty,

But here the weed stands

Tall and proud,

Unbroken, unyielding, a speck of brown

They long to feel the sun

To not suffocate

 But to live and love,

To be a rose, and have its fun,

So here they live side by side

Unaware

That they both wish for the other's life,

But isn't that how it always goes?

A wish for a change of skin

Never realizing the shoes they're walking in.
